In the school's last competition of the year Edge Hill entered 4 teams into the Y3/4 Rounders tournament. 4 other schools competed in two leagues with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place being awarded for the best overall points total after all league games had been played.
Both leagues saw our Edge Hill teams facing off against each other in an all Edge Hill encounter. Each team improved and their fielding and batting got better and better as the games progressed. Even though some of the rules were unclear to our players at the start e.g. when to run, they soon picked them up and began to use some successful tactics.
After all games were played, Edge Hill 2 finished in 3rd place and won the bronze medal with Edge Hill 1 finishing joint second to claim the silver medals. Congratulations to pupils from all 4 teams who were excellent ambassadors for the school.
Today, Edge Hill were lucky enough to represent Burton Albion at the regional Premier League Primary Stars Competition at Aston Villa. Each club had chosen a school to represent them for the day. The day was split into two halves, the first half Edge Hill participated in a number of different Maths challenges linked to creating a Fantasy World Cup team. They were also given the chance to go into Villa Park and see the ground which was a brilliant experience.
The football competition consisted of 13 teams who were split into 2 groups. The following teams were in group 1: Aston Villa, Walsall, Chesterfield, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, and Derby County. Group 2 was filled with ourselves (representing Burton Albion), West Brom, Notts County, Northampton Town, MK Dons, Wolves and Leicester. Each game was 8 or 10 minutes long depending on which group the team were in, with the top two teams in each group advancing to the semi finals. 3 points were awarded for a win, 2 for a draw and 1 for a loss.
In our first game we faced off against West Brom, who were a very good footballing side. Fortunately for us, we were on it from the start and managed to win 2-0 with Cole scoring first and Joe finishing off a great move down the left side.
We continued our dominance in the second game against Leicester City and had chance after chance. However, we were not able to beat an in form goalie and then we were caught on the break by a surprise goal - the game ended with a 1-0 loss.
This spurred us on in our third game against Notts County with Max Tomlinson scoring a brace and even squeezing in a goal directly from a corner resulting in another 2-0 win.
Going into our 4th game the boys were full of confidence and their football showed this as they were playing some excellent stuff. We faced off against Wolves and went 1-0 up early on with another poacher’s finish by Cole. Wolves did not give up and managed to score an equaliser with minutes to go which resulted in a 1-1 draw.
In our penultimate group game we played another strong side in Northampton Town and were able to hold on to 1-0 lead with Cole scoring again. The team were in full flow now and wanted to continue this good form in the final group game.
The last group game saw us play MK Dons with the team knowing a win would see them through to the semis. Within minutes we found ourselves 1-0 up after Charlie F smashing home a well worked move. This was closely followed by 2 and 3-0 with Cole and Zack getting on the score sheet. Right at the every end Max T rolled the ball to Charlie F who stroked the ball into the top corner to finish the game 4-0.
After finishing top of our group with 15 points, we were drawn against Group 1’s runners-up Walsall. Edge Hill exploded out from the start and found themselves 2-0 up within the first 5 minutes. Walsall were then awarded a free kick just outside the area after an accidental handball which they smashed into the goal. The final 4 minutes proved very nervy for both players and staff as it was end to end football. The boys held on and advanced to the final with a 2-1 win.
The final proved to be a local derby as we faced off against the school representing Derby County. Edge Hill created numerous chances yet the Derby goalkeeper was on fine form and was determined not to be beaten. Both teams nullified each other and we both knew what was coming.......penalties.
Three players were selected to take a penalty in the shootout with both teams scoring their first 3. Max T, Cole and Charlie F were not put off by the pressure and hammered their penalties home. It then went to sudden death, with both teams not looking like missing as Zack and Charlie P both slotted their penalties away. Regan then made a fantastic save to put the pressure on Joe Connell who placed the ball firmly in the corner to win the tournament for Edge Hill.
A massive congratulations to the Regional Premier League Primary Stars champions:
Regan, Zack, Charlie P, Max, Charlie F, Cole and Joe.
Burton & District Kwik Cricket @ Walton Cricket Club - 5th July 2018
Edge Hill entered two teams of Y5 cricketers in today's competition at Walton CC. Once again, the weather was fantastic and the wickets were lovely and flat.
Edge Hill A and Edge Hill B played matches against Eton Park and Horninglow schools, playing well and with developing skill. Despite many of our players being beginners, they did really well and their bowling improved with every over they bowled. Both teams put in competitive performances and at certain stages were ahead in some of their matches, but found it hard to contain the batting of the other teams. The all Edge Hill match was a close run thing which the A team won by just 8 runs showing how closely matched our teams were. Neither of our teams won the competition today but they all enjoyed the experience of playing on a proper wicket in the sunshine. Well done to both teams for putting on a great show, and well done to Horninglow for winning the competition!
Edge Hill A: Danny, Charlie, Freya, Leo, Kieran, Dylan, Mateusz and Alivia!
Edge Hill B: Mia, Fearne, Jack So, Jack Sh, Omarion, Kian, Ellis and Millie!
16 children from Y3-5 participated in a bowls competition this afternoon. After walking to the venue from school, the 16 were split into 4 teams and each played 2 games. The aim of the game was to bowl and get closest to the jack with the closest bowl scoring one point for their team. It is fair to say that our first few bowls were very short as the majority of the pupils had not played before. However, as their turns at bowling came thick and fast, the children soon found their length and accuracy and began scoring points. The teams of 4 were split into pairs and sent to play another pair from another school. After each game, both sets of scores were added together to give a final score.
When the two games were played, the teams waited in anticipation to see if they had made the quarter finals. Both Edge Hill 1 and 4 has qualified and both faced off against teams from Anglesey Primary school. Edge Hill 1 won their game 12-8 with Edge Hill 4 also winning 14-8. In the semi finals both Edge Hill teams met each other in an all Edge Hill semi final. This shows the fantastic efforts by all at our school to have two teams reaching this stage at a sport we have very little experience in. Edge Hill 4 were successful in the semi final after beating Edge Hill 1 by 13 points to 12.
In in the final, Edge Hill 4 faced a very strong William Shrewsbury side. Both pairs played against opponents from WS in two very close games where any of them could have taken the gold. Unfortunately for Edge Hill, William Shrewsbury beat them in an incredibly close game 13-12.
A massive congratulations to all four teams for their effort and attitude through the afternoon.
Sophie, Mia F, Mia W, Charlie C, Marnie, Richard, Charlie P, Katie, Faith, Sienna, Fearne, Courtney, Maizie-Jae, Oliver, Emmie and Jessica.
Cross Country County Finals @ Keele University - 29th June 2018
A huge well Done to the three Edge Hill cross country teams who took part in today's finals at Keele. The Y3 girls, Y5 girls and Y6 boys all ran their hearts out but couldn't challenge the fine athletes from some of the other Staffordshire schools. Even so, they all did their best and deserve a gigantic pat on the back for getting to the finals!
Y5/6 Athletics Competition @ Shobnall Leisure Complex - 28th June 2018
On a lovely evening after school today a team from Y5/6 represented Edge Hill at this athletics competition. Each team member completed a sprint, 400m, howler throw and long jump. The Edge Hill athletes featured prominently in every race with Harrison gaining a gold medal for the fastest time in the 400m. Also, Jack received a silver medal in the sprint. Congratulations to both of them! There wasn't time for all the results to be announced, but Edge Hill should have a few silver and bronze medals to add to the two medals they achieved. The team result has yet to be worked out so watch this space!
1st Abbotsholme (2,012 points)
2nd Edge Hill (1,944 points)
3rd Thomas Russell (1,893 points)
Boys 75m Sprint: Jack - Silver!
Girls 75m Sprint: Fearne - Bronze!
Boys 600m; Harrison - Gold!
Girls 600m: Phoebe - Silver!
Boys Howler Throw: George - Bronze!
Boys Long Jump: Spencer - Bronze!
A huge Well Done to the Edge Hill team for finishing in second place in this very competitive competition!
Today’s event took place in Branston, where 28 children from Edge Hill participated in a multi-skills event alongside 3 other schools. Each child experienced 8 different sports in a carousel format which were: athletics, dodgeball, hockey, cricket, football, parachute games, handball, throwing and catching. All children loved representing the school, with most of them doing this for the first time today. Hopefully, this will inspire them to put themselves forward for upcoming events both this and next year. Well done to all involved who showed an excellent attitude throughout and put in 110% in each activity.
Our third cricket competition in two weeks took place today. Two teams from Y3 and Y4 represented Edge Hill.
Both teams played two games each against schools from the Burton area.
Edge Hill I 260 v 265 William Shrewsbury I
Edge Hill I 258 v 241 St Modwen's I
Edge Hill I played against some strong opposition who pushed them to their limits. However, the children produced some fantastic bowling, batting and fielding which got better and better as the games progressed. After losing their first game by a close 5 runs, Edge Hill I hit a few 4s and caught a few out to take the victory in the second game - well done!
Edge Hill II 232 v 241 Christ Church II
Edge Hill II 238 v 263 Victoria
Edge Hill II also played against some very gifted batters and bowlers who clearly play cricket on a regular basis. Nevertheless, the children were not phased and went into both games ready to show off what they had been practising. There was some fantastic fielding and some very accurate bowling and batting during both games but unfortunately the opposition outscored us in both games.
Overall, the children did the school proud and excelled in their first cricket tournament and will hopefully continue to practise and develop their love of cricket.
A huge Well Done to:
Cole, Zack, Regan, Charlie, Sam, Kaydan, Jack S, Geoffry, Joshua, Marnie, Ibrahim, Richard, Jay, Ty, Finley, Jak F, Liam, and Katie.
Our third competition of the week saw 24 of our Y3/4 children take part in the Athletics competition. We entered 3 teams of 8 who all participated in the howler throw, 50m sprint, 400m run and the standing long jump. Each child portrayed an excellent attitude and high levels of effort in each event.
Long jump - Alexi 3rd and Max T 1st
400m - Millie 3rd and Max T 3rd
Howler throw - Katie 2nd, Jay 3rd and Liam 1st
50m sprint - Ellie 3rd and Max T 3rd
A huge congratulations to all children:
Katie, Millie, Max T, Cole, Max B, Harrison W, Marnie, Aneira, Zak, Jamie, Ollie, Liam, Alexi, Sophie, Ellie, Katie, Rosie, Richard, Jay, Jack, Sadie, Holly, Izzy and McKenzie.
Edge Hill were lucky enough to have an Olympic athlete visit the school today. Kristian Thomas lead fitness sessions for each class who were all super excited to participate. After the fitness sessions, the school enjoyed an assembly lead by Kristian where he demonstrated some amazing gymnastic moves and even jumped over our headteacher! Hopefully this will push and inspire our children to achieve their dreams and challenge themselves each day.
Y5/6 Kwik Cricket Competition @ Rolleston Cricket Club - 12th June 2018
Our second cricket competition of the week took place today. A team from Y5 and Y6 represented Edge Hill.
Edge Hill v Christ Church II
The team started off well with a good win against Christ Church II. There were a few catches dropped but the team batted well and ended up winning by 40+ runs. A great start!
Edge Hill v William Shrewsbury I
This match against WS was a much tougher task as their bowlers were all good and restricted the Edge Hill players from scoring many runs. While the Edge Hill team didn't give a lot away when bowling and fielding, even our strongest batters struggled to get the ball away against some quick and accurate bowling from WS. Even so, the team tried their best, but ended up losing the match and did not progress further in the competition.
A huge Well Done to:
Harry W, Alfie, Harry A, Danny, Lewis, Harrison, Harry and Lucas!
Girls’ Kwik Cricket @ Dunstall Cricket Club – 11th June 2018
A team of nine girls from Y4, Y5 and Y6 took part in this School Games qualifying Kwik Cricket tournament today. The weather was gorgeous and the grass well-shorn!
Edge Hill 225-220 Horninglow
The girls’ first match didn’t start off too well as they were bowled twice in the first over, resulting in 10 runs deducted from their total. However, they dug in and started to rack up some runs in singles and the odd boundary, but the total wasn’t a huge one by the time their batting innings was over. When it was the team’s turn to bowl against Horninglow, the girls bowled really well by getting lots of wickets and keeping the no balls to a minimum. We weren’t certain of the outcome, but the team’s tight bowling meant they had done enough to start with a victory!
Edge Hill 241-219 St Modwen’s
In the team’s second and final group match the girls bowled really well again, and Lily even smashed a few sixes over the boundary. Their fielding was tight and restricted the St Modwen’s batters to one or two boundaries. With the wickets the bowlers took to keep the opposition’s run total down, the girls did brilliantly to take command and finish as convincing winners of the match!
Having won both of our group matches, we genuinely thought we had won a place in the semi-finals, but once all the 12 teams’ results were in we were disappointed to learn that we hadn’t qualified due to a lower run total than one of the other teams. It was a shame, especially as the girls had done really well to win their matches. We decided to head to the bar to drown our sorrows in some cold, fizzy pop!
Great bowling today, girls! A huge Well Done to:
Marnie, Lily, Millie, Mia, Fearne, Isobel, Sophie, Alecia and Alivia!
Edge Hill Red v Edge Hill Green, Ellis Shield 2nd Round @ Edge Hill – 8th June 2018
Another meeting between the two Edge Hill Y5/6 football teams was held to decide which team would progress in this year’s Ellis Shield competition.
Edge Hill Red (Spencer) 1-0 Edge Hill Green
It was another close match between the Edge Hill teams who finished 1st and 2nd in the league this year, separated by just 2 goals in favour of the Reds. Tonight’s match was level-pegging at the end of the first half with chances in front of goal for both teams. While it was the Reds who applied most of the pressure, the Greens made their chances by breaking quickly and taking shots when they got the opportunity.
Spencer put the Reds in front by finishing off a well-worked passing move which he put away from just in front of goal. The game almost went to extra-time after Elliot broke through and took a shot which forced Jack to make a snap-reaction save. Another chance right at the end of the match saw the Green’s break through the defence yet again, but the shot went over the crossbar.
Well done to the Reds for getting through to the next round, and to the Greens for making it such an exciting match!
Edge Hill entered 2 teams of 10 from Y3-6 into this year's Tri-Golf competition who competed against 8 other teams from different schools from the area. The teams participated in 8 different activities all of which tested their Tri-Golf skills and improved their techniques as they progressed through thr course. Each team had 5 minutes on each activity to score as many points as they could through various different putting and chipping activities. Edge Hill A finished 3rd and received a bronze medal and Edge Hill B finished 8th. A fantastic night of trying out a new sport for most of the children who all looked to have a thoroughly enjoyable night.
A huge Well Done and Congratulations to all involved:
Edge Hill A - George, Lewis, Richard, Finley, Phoebe, Lacey, Mia W, Mia F, Millie W, Sophie S
Edge Hill B - Max B, Harry S, Connor B, Oliver W, Morgan F, Katie S, Jorja O, Jessica A, Izzy B and Sophie I.
Y5/6 Tag Rugby County Finals @ Barton Rugby Club – May 23rd 2018
This was our second successive year at the tag rugby county finals and we hoped to do better after facing some very stiff competition last time.
Edge Hill A competed against five other teams from around Staffordshire. Once again, there were some very strong teams!
Edge Hill A 3-4 St Luke’s, Cannock (George, Jack D, Lewis) The team’s opening match was a close one against St Luke’s, who got a bit of revenge after losing to our football team in the Staffs FA U11 Cup a few months ago. They beat Edge Hill A by one try.
Edge Hill A 6-4 Woodhouse Academy (Harrison x6) The result should probably read Harrison 6 Woodhouse Academy 4 as he put in an imperious performance by running in every try!
Edge Hill A 1-3 Coton Green (Harrison) A good running and passing team pressed Edge Hill A hard causing the team to lose its cohesion and attacking style.
Edge Hill A 4-6 St Edwards, Leek (Harrison, George H, Phoebe, Jack) The team faced a well-drilled side from the eventual winners of the competition. They were very good!
Edge Hill A 6-2 Shobnall (George H, Fearne, Harrison x3, Alfie T) The team ran out convincing winners against Shobnall, finishing the competition on a high!
Edge Hill B was our passing team and were great to watch! Mia and Alfie were stars in the middle of the pitch again.
Edge Hill B 5-5 Fulfen Academy (Mia x2, Alfie, Charlie x2) As usual, the team were secure in possession, but just lacked the means to stop the other team from scoring.
Edge Hill B 3-5 Pye Green Academy (Mia x2, Will) The team Edge Hill B faced were the eventual winners of the group, but Edge Hill B kept plugging away at their passing game!
Edge Hill B 5-4 Flaxhill (Alfie W x2, Harry, George N x2) This was a tight contest but Edge Hill B snatched victory in what was a very close match!
Edge Hill B 5-7 William Shrewsbury (Lily, Charlie x2, Alfie W, Mia) The two teams had met each other in the East Staffs competition just a week ago. That game finished in a 6-6 tie but WS got the upper-hand today.
Though the teams did not get through to the semi-finals, they both put in excellent performances. When compared to some of the competition today, Edge Hill is not a rugby focussed school, but the teams showed they could compete with them! A huge Well Done to both of our brilliant teams!
Edge Hill were able to enter 80 children from Y3-6 for this event. This was fantastic to see and it shows the children's high levels of desire to represent the school and partake in sport. One of the best things to see was the new faces representing Edge Hill at a sporting event who have now hopefully caught the bug and will look forward to the next event.
Medals were awarded for both individuals and teams for each event. The first three finishers from each school decided who would win the team event. Winning a team event also won the school a trophy and a place in the county finals!
Individual Results (Our Highest Finishers)
Y3 Girls 600m: Millie H (1st)
Y3 Boys 600m: Ollie G (1st)
Y4 Girls 800m: Chloe W (5th)
Y4 Boys 800m: Zack M (1st)
Y5 Girls 1200m: Fearne H (1st)
Y5 Boys 1200m: Harrison S (1st)
Y6 Girls 1600m: Phoebe L (1st)
Y6 Boys 1600m: George H (3rd)
Y3 Girls 600m: Winners - Millie, Maisie and Sophie
Y4 Girls 800m: 3rd Place - Alivia , Chloe and 2 others.
Y4 Boys 800m: 2nd Place - Zack M, Charlie P and Max B
Y5 Girls 1200m: 2nd Place - Fearne H, Millie W and Skye T.
Y5 Boys 1200m: 3rd Place - Harrison S, Jack S, Charlie C and Leo W.
Y6 Girls 1600m: 3rd Place - Phoebe L, Abbie T and Katie S.
Y6 Boys 1600m: Winners - Jack D, George H, Jake W and Isaiah TR.
This was an extremely successful night for the school, not only for the individual and team medals but for the amount of children attending the event who all put in 110% and portrayed an excellent amount of drive and determination. A massive congratulations to all involved.
WINNERS! Britannia Cup Football Finals @ Edge Hill – May 17th 2018
The Burton & District Primary Schools Football League top teams met tonight to decide this year’s winner of the Britannia Cup.
All the results!
Edge Hill Green 0-1 Edge Hill Red (George)
Edge Hill Green 1-2 Outwoods (Elliot)
Edge Hill Red 3-0 Outwoods (George, Spencer, Danny)
After some excellent football by all 3 teams, it was Edge Hill Red who came out on top with 2 fine performances and wins against the other two teams. In the all Edge Hill encounter, Edge Hill Green battled hard against the Reds and contained them for most of the match, but George broke the deadlock with an excellent shot into the top right-hand corner of the net.
The Reds then put in a commanding performance against Outwoods to clinch the win and successfully defend the Britannia Cup for the school!
A huge Well Done to both Edge Hill teams for playing so well!
On a beautiful evening at Burton Tennis club, 8 Y3/4 pupils participated in their first ever tennis competition. Edge Hill entered 2 teams of 4 who competed against a wide range of other schools from the local area in a competition which consisted of 4 small leagues. Each team of 4 would play a 3 minute singles game against another school with the total scores being added together to give a final result.
Edge Hill 1's results:

Game 3 - Edge Hill 2 v Horninglow
Charlie won 7-2

Ellie won 5-3
Match ended in a 22 -11 victory for Edge Hill 2.
The top team in each of the 4 different leagues progressed to the semi finals which saw Edge Hill 1 advancing to play against William Shrewsbury 1. Unfortunately for Edge Hill 2, they missed out due to their first loss to Thomas Russell.
In the semi final, each player played at the same time in very close games with the final score being 11-11 after all 4 games. Due to time constraints, each team had to pick one player each to play in a sudden death point play off. Zack represented Edge Hill 1 and lost out after a very good rally from both players.
Both teams played exceptionally well and grew in confidence as they played each game. A wonderful effort by all involved. Edge Hill 1 also achieved 3rd place in the tournament and will collect a bronze medal each.
WINNERS! East Staffs Y5/6 Tag Rugby Tournament @ Robert Sutton – May 9th 2018
Two very different Y5/6 teams from Edge Hill took part in this East Staffs tag rugby competition and qualifier for the county finals. Whilst Edge Hill I was built on pace and dynamism, Edge Hill II played a very impressive passing game!
Edge Hill I began their group matches by playing Shobnall. It was a bit of a ding-dong match with both teams taking turns to score. Edge Hill I looked to be getting the upper hand but had two tries disallowed, which allowed Shobnall to get back on even terms. The match ended 5-5 but as a first competitive outing the team’s performance was very promising! The team came alive in its next match against Victoria, which finished 10-1 to Edge Hill I with hat-tricks for Alfie T and Elliot. Lewis, Jack S and Jack D also got on the score sheet!
Edge Hill II Though the Edge Hill II team was dwarfed by some of the other teams, they proved to be the best passing team in the tournament! They kept possession of the ball with calm and skill and supported each other brilliantly! The team’s first match against Outwoods finished 2-2 with tries scored by Alfie W and Abigail. Mia was excellent in the middle of the pitch and ran play for the rest of the team. In its second match the team met a huge team from William Shrewsbury, but Edge Hill II maintained its passing and possession game to finish the match 6-6, with Alfie W scoring a hat-trick! Will and Omarion looked lively in this game and were very unlucky not to win the game for the team after getting into some great positions. Charlie’s bursts of pace caused the WS team no end of problems, too. In the end, the team was very unlucky not to snatch the win with a last second try which was unfortunately disallowed.
Semi-final: Edge Hill I 2-1 Edge Hill II The two Edge Hill teams met each other in one of the semi-finals – and couldn’t have been more different in their playing styles! Edge Hill I was full of pace whilst Edge Hill II played a possession and controlled passing game. It was Edge Hill I who took the lead after a break down the right by George H, but Edge Hill II inched their way forward keeping possession of the ball, then burst forward to get George N over the try line to draw level! It was a close and fascinating contest between the two very different teams, but George H broke away again to score the team’s second and winning try to put Edge Hill I in the final!
Final: Edge Hill I 8-3 William Shrewsbury The final began immediately with a breakaway try by Jack D, though WS responded just as quickly with an equaliser! After that, the team really began to utilise the pace it had at its disposal with 5 tries from Elliot, Jack D, George H and Lewis. Though WS got behind the defence to score 2 tries of their own, Edge Hill I wrapped things up with tries from George H and Jack S. Congratulations to the team for winning the competition and qualifying for the tag rugby county finals!
To be honest, either of the Edge Hill teams would have been worthy winners tonight and both deserve a huge Well Done!
Edge Hill I: Elliot, Alfie T, Kian, George H, Jack S, Phoebe, Fearne, Jack D and Lewis!Edge Hill II: Alfie W, Mia, Abigail, Will, Omarion, George N, Charlie and Harry!
Our first Sporting event of the week saw our Y3/4 pupils participate in a Tag Rugby Tournament at Robert Sutton. We entered 2 teams on the night with many of them being first timers competing in competitive Tag Rugby. The competition consisted of a total of 5 teams who played against each other in a league format.
Edge Hill 1 were extremely unlucky in their first game against William Shrewsbury as it seemed to take a while for them to get to grips with the rules. After finding themselves 2-0 down, they quickly pulled it back to 2-2 with tries from Max T and Max B who both enjoyed surging forward to complete great moves. Unfortunately for EH, their opponents scored a winning try with seconds to go.
In their second game, Edge Hill 1 faced Outwoods and definitely started to find their feet in the competition. Each player seemed to gain much more confidence and a want to run forward with the ball which resulted with a flourish of tries. The game finished in a 9-0 victory with tries scored by: Cole (x2), Max T (x2), Max B (x2), Charlie P, Marnie and Charlie F.
In their third game, Edge Hill 1 played against the competition's favourites Picknalls. After a very nervy start to the game with Picknalls applying the pressure, Cole made a surging run down the wing to score to make it 1-0. This was closely followed by 2-0 after a great run by Max B. The opposition did not hesitate to make the most of some lazy play from EH and pulled a try back to make it 2-1. This did not faze EH 1 as Charlie F and Cole added further tries to the score to end the game 4-1.
In Edge Hill 2's first game they played again Outwoods and enjoyed a successful start to the competition. Each player had a huge desire to outrun their opponents to reach the try line without hesitation which resulted in 3 very quickly scored tries from Jack S, Harrision and Ole. A great start for the team!
In Edge Hill 2's second game they faced Picknalls who we all knew were a strong side. EH did all they could to try and break the opposition down with some fantastic runs from Harrison, Harry G and Jack S. However, these opportunities did not result in any tries and the game finished 3-0 to Picknalls.
In Edge Hill 2's third game, they started very well with some great passing from Richard and Tyrun that nearly led to a try before Harrison was caught out near to the try line. William Shrewsbury has 2/3 very quick players who danced in and out of the space to score some quick tries before Harry G finished off a fantastic phase of play by EH 2. The game ended 4-1 to William Shrewsbury.
The tournament's final game saw both EH teams face off against each other in an all EH game. The best part of this game was seeing the pupils' faces covered with smiles as a result of playing against each other which was a brilliant moment for the school. The game finished 6-1 to EH 1 with tries from: Marnie, Max T, Charlie P, Cole and Charlie F (x2).
A thoroughly enjoyable night for the school teams who developed their confidence and understanding of playing the game as each game went on.
Edge Hill 2 finished a respectable 4th on the night with Edge Hill 1 finishing 2nd.
A huge congratulations to all involved:
EH 1 - Max T, Cole, Marnie, Katie S, Charlie P, Tyrun S, Max B and Charlie F.
EH 2 - Jack S, Ole E, Morgan F, Katie M-H, Harrison, Harry, Richard, Raheem and Zac.
WINNERS! Staffs FA U11 Cup Final v Codsall Middle School @ Stafford Town FC – 27th April 2018
The team had done brilliantly to get to the final of this county-wide competition and just needed one more performance to clinch the cup! We had met Codsall Middle School earlier in the year at the county finals, narrowly losing 0-1 on that occasion. With our top goal scorer missing at tonight’s final, some shuffling was required to shape the team into a winning one!
Codsall Middle 1-3 Edge Hill (George, Jack, Henley)
Evans Park, Stafford Town’s excellent 3G ground, was the venue for tonight’s final. It was much wider than we were used to, but the team played solidly in the first half with a few half chances at scoring from Phoebe and Harrison. Will, Isaiah and Jake were always secure as Edge Hill’s defensive line, but it was Codsall who took the lead after a sustained period of pressure in front of the Edge Hill goal.
At half-time, everyone knew that we had to make some changes in order to put pressure on the Codsall defence and get back into the game. The Edge Hill engine room of George, Jack, Harrison and Alfie was sound and always capable of creating chances for the player in front of them, so Henley was promoted from goalkeeper to striker. Also, Elliot took a turn in defence and tasked to increase the team’s attacking options by getting the ball forward as often as possible.
Immediately after the start of the second half, the team went on the front foot with Henley breaking through the Codsall defence on more than one occasion. As the midfield swept forward in support, George took a long shot from outside of the goal area which dropped over the goalie into the net! The scores were now level and Edge Hill was starting to get on top of the game! About five minutes later, after another breakthrough and attempt on goal from Henley (and a parry by the Codsall goalkeeper) Jack was in the right place to slot home the loose ball, putting Edge Hill into the lead for the first time in the match!
Even so, it wasn’t all one way; Codsall kept pushing forwards and kept Lewis busy between the sticks, but he patrolled his area well and kept things safe and secure. With five minutes of the match left to play, Henley got a well deserved goal after getting through the Codsall defence yet again! After that, it just remained to see the remaining time out by playing safely, which the players proved they could do very well during their previous cup tie!
Congratulations for winning the cup and for an excellent performance by all the Edge Hill players. It took a while for the team to find its shape, but they really pulled it off in the second half! A huge Well Done to:
Phoebe, Alfie, Will, Isaiah, Jake, Lewis, George, Harrison, Elliot, Jack and Henley!
Football League: Edge Hill v St Modwen’s @ Edge Hill – 23rd April 2018
Tonight’s matches against St Modwen’s A and B were the final football league matches of the season.
Edge Hill Red 1-1 St Modwen’s A (Phoebe)
There weren’t many goals in this closely fought match, but the team went ahead after Phoebe slotted one in during the first half. However, St Mods pulled level during the second half!
Edge Hill Green 6-0 St Modwen’s B (Harrison x4, Omarion, Elliot)
The Greens dominated this match with Harrison managing play in the centre. He also racked up 4 goals in a great performance!
Edge Hill Red 3-0 St Modwen’s B (Spencer x3)
The Reds made lots of chances with George bossing the middle of the pitch. The team ran out convincing winners of the match but could have scored more with better ball distribution.
Edge Hill Green 2-0 St Modwen’s A (Omarion x2)
This match was tougher for the Greens but Leo played really well in goal, keeping the team in the game. Jack Sh, Charlie, Kian and Elliot stood strong at the back and swept forward at the right moments to cause problems at the other end. With Harrison controlling the midfield again, Omarion took his opportunities to score both of the team’s goals!
Well done to both teams for finishing the league season unbeaten! It’s going to be a very close thing at the top of the league!
Edge Hill Red: Jack, Lewis, Spencer, Will, George, Phoebe, Isaiah and Jake!Edge Hill Green: Jack Sh, Harrison, Leo, Charlie, Omarion, Elliot and Kian!
Y3/4 Quicksticks @ Shobnall – Thursday 19th April 2018
On an extremely sunny evening, 4 Y3/4 Edge Hill teams participated in a 4 aside hockey tournament. Each team played 3 league games which all lasted 10 minutes.
Edge Hill A 3 v 1 Victoria A (Cole x2 and Zack)
Edge Hill A 5 v 0 Mosley B (Charlie, Zack x2 and Cole x2)
Edge Hill A 2 v 2 Eton Park B (Cole x 2)
Edge Hill B 9 v 0 Victoria B ( Reegan x3, Max B x3, Reegan x2 and Richard)
Edge Hill B 0 v 0 Christ Church A
Edge Hill B 7 v 0 Eton Park C (Max B x2, Max T x2, Regan x2 and Richard)
Edge Hill C 4 v 0 Victoria C (Jay x3 and Liam)
Edge Hill C 1 v 0 Christ Church B (Jay)
Edge Hill C 1 v 1 Richard Wakefield (Liam)
All three teams played exceptionally well and were a credit to the school. Their hard work and attitude in every game payed off as they all remained unbeaten in the group stages winning 2 and drawing 1. Unfortunately, none of the teams progressed to the semi-finals as they missed out on goals scored after finishing on level points in their groups.
Massive congratulations to all involved:
Cole, Zack, Charlie, Marnie, Regan, Max T, Max B, Richard, Geoffry, Morgan, Jay and Liam. :)
Y5/6 Girls’ Football League – April 17th 2018
The Y5/6 Girl's Football team participated in their final 3 league games at Burton Albion tonight. In the first game, the girls lost 3-2 against Oldfields in a very close game either side could have won. Two brilliant finishes by Phoebe in the game kept the pressure on the opposition all through the game.
In their second game, the girls faced Richard Wakefield for the forth time in the league. Having beaten them previously the girls went into the game full of confidence. Unfortunately for the girls, the opposition had welcomed back 2 or 3 of their strongest players which proved too much for them on the night. The scored ended 5-2 with goals from Phoebe and an absolute rocket from Ellie. The girls played very well and showed great levels of determination throughout the game and should be proud of their resilience.
In their final game Lacey played her first game out of goal this the season which proved to be a pivotal change in the line up as we beat William Shrewsbury 1-0 with Lacey scoring the goal. We had various other chances too with Lily hitting the post and Phoebe having numerous shots saved.
The girls have been fantastic this season and have done themselves proud.
Well done to those involved:
Lacey, Lily, Marnie, Mia W, Paris N, Phoebe and Ellie.
Staffordshire FA U11 Cup 4th Round v St Luke’s, Cannock – Thursday 29th March 2018
Despite the clouds opening just as we were about to kick-off, we managed to play this tie against St Luke’s. It was very wet, but the pitch held up quite well and both teams gave it their all.
St Luke’s 0-1 Edge Hill (o.g.)
At the start of the match, St Luke’s were clearly a decent team and made some dangerous breaks around our right flank, though Lewis and the defence managed to clear the area each time. Once Edge Hill settled into the game, the team started to build attacks of their own down the right wing. Midway through the first half, a cross into the box from Spencer ricocheted off a St Luke’s defender and into the goal, putting us into the lead!
Edge Hill took control of the game in the second half and kept the St Luke’s team at bay. The Edge Hill players made some good chances in front of goal, especially when the ball was passed out of defence to the front players. However, the conditions weren’t brilliant at this point and shots at goal were often snatched or lacking in power. Even so, Edge Hill were well in command of the game with the defence breaking up all the St Luke’s attacks before they came to anything.
Well done team for putting in a great performance. The conditions weren’t ideal, but you took control of the game in the second half and the result was never in any doubt!
Congratulations on getting through to the final to:Phoebe, Alfie, Isaiah, Jake, Lewis, George, Harrison, Spencer, Jack and Danny!

Year 5/6 Hockey Tournament @ Shobnall – Friday 23rd March 2018
9 children from years 5 and 6 participated in this week's hockey tournament. There were 15 other schools at the competition all fighting to win the trophy. Edge Hill were drawn in group B along with: Eton Park B, Outwoods A, Richard Wakefield and William Gilbert.
In our first game, the game ended in a 0-0 draw. Edge Hill were on top for the majority of the game and were unlucky not to win after a disallowed goal from Lewis. In the second game, we played against arguably the best team at the competition, Richard Wakefield. All of our team played very well but could not handle the specialised techniques some of the opponent's players had which resulted in a 3-1 loss. In our third and fourth games we played against Outwoods A and William Gilbert. In these games, the team ran riot and could have easily won by 3 or 4. Both games ended in 1-0 victories to Edge Hill with the goals coming from Lewis against Outwoods and Phoebe against William Gilbert.
After picking up two victories in a row and finishing second in our group, we were through to the quarter finals where we were drawn against another team from our group. The mtaches had now changed from 12 minutes straight through to two 5 minute halves. Richard Wakefield were the team drawn against us and after beating us 3-1 n the group stages, we had something to prove. The team all dug in deep and competed in a much closer game which unfortunately ended with a 1-0 defeat. However, as the games went on and the children were getting used to the game and the rules and they definitely showed they were no push overs.
I am incredibly proud of the team as they were excellent in every game and portrayed a fantatsic attitude throughout.
A huge congratulations to: Harry, Scarlett, Phoebe, Mia, Lewis, Charlie, Leo, George and Alfie.
Gymnastics Competition @ Meadowside Leisure Centre – March 23rd 2018
A huge Well Done to the 32 gymnasts from Edge Hill who took part in the competition this afternoon. Huge credit goes to all of them for learning their routines and performing them brilliantly!
With so many from Edge Hill taking part (with many competition first-timers, too), the children were grouped into three Y3/4 teams and three Y5/6 teams. Each member of each team took turns to perform his or her floor routine and two vaults, with the best four scores from each team counting towards their team’s total. Once the scores had been totted up, everyone waited to hear the results of the competition.
Firstly, medals were awarded for individual high scores for the Y3/4 Vault and Floor and Y5/6 Vault and Floor categories:
Y3/4 Individual Vault: Maisie – Silver
Y3/4 Individual Floor: Maisie – Bronze
Well done to Maisie for some excellent individual performances!
Medals and trophies were then awarded for the overall team results for Y3/4 and Y5/6:
Y3/4 Overall Team – Gold (Edge Hill A)
Y5/6 Overall Team – Bronze (Edge Hill A)
Huge congratulations to the Y3/4s for winning Edge Hill’s first gymnastics gold! Congratulations also go to the Y5/6s for getting on the podium! Finally, the Y5/6 B team deserves a special mention for finishing just out of the medals in 4th place!
However, regardless of where they finished, all the Edge Hill gymnasts were brilliant. The less experienced children who took part deserve the most recognition of all because these competitions can be quite daunting the first time round. A huge Well Done to everyone who took part!
Y3: Myah, Mya, Alexis, Riley, Keria, Katie, Hollie, Maisie, Maria and Sienna !
Y4: Izzy, Libby, Ellie, Demi and Mia!
Y5: Minnie, Maizie-Jae, Faith, Skye, Millie, Mia and Fearne!
Y6: Katie S, Demi, Olivia, Sophie, Keira, Katie Y, Elloise, Holly, Courtney and Leah!
Inclusive Festival @ Robert Sutton – 22nd March 2018
Two teams from Y5 represented Edge Hill in this unique event at Robert Sutton.
Our teams competed against 9 other teams in four events: goalball, boccia, seated volleyball and new age kurling. Both teams won some and lost some of their games and really enjoyed taking part in the unusual events.
A huge Well Done to both teams for trying so hard in all the events!
Edge Hill A: Amani, Lorraine, Mateusz and Rowan!Edge Hill B: Amber, Rebecca, Kobe and Taylor!
RUNNER-UP! Y5/6 Netball Tournament @ Edge Hill - 20th March 2018
Netball teams from Anglesey, Victoria, Eton Park and Edge Hill met tonight in a Burton and District competition.
The two Edge Hill teams played really well against some good opposition, with Edge Hill A very unlucky not to win the trophy. The team won 3 and drew 1 of their matches, just missing out on goal difference!
Well done to both Edge Hill teams for trying their best!
Football League: Edge Hill v Victoria @ Edge Hill – March 20th 2018
On the same evening that Edge Hill Junior School hosted a local netball tournament, the school Y5/6 football teams played their league matches against Victoria Community School.
Edge Hill Red 5-3 Victoria (Spencer, George x2, Phoebe x2))
With the team’s defence (including the goalkeeper) being almost entirely unavailable, the Reds were a bit makeshift at the back for this game. Elliot stepped forward to guard the sticks in the first half and did his best to keep out some good players from Victoria. Out of the blue, Victoria took the lead with a snap shot into the Edge Hill net, but within minutes some skilful work on the right led to an equaliser by Spencer! Not long after, George put the team in front before Victoria scored again to make the score 2-2. Great positioning and a goal from Phoebe regained the lead for Edge Hill, then George got his second of the match to give the team a two goal lead!
In the second half Victoria refused to lie down, scoring a third goal to put the outcome of the match in doubt. However, the Edge Hill players started to show their class and began to pepper the Victoria goal. A cross from the by-line from George found Phoebe in another great position in front of goal, from which she calmly slotted the ball away to put the match out of Victoria’s reach.
Well done team for maintaining your unbeaten run in the league!
Edge Hill Green 6-1 Victoria (Jack S x3, Leo, Omarion x2)
During the first period of play, Jack S scored a brilliant hat-trick, mostly supplied by Harrison who bossed the midfield throughout the match!
Leo put the team 4-0 up just after the restart. Victoria pulled a goal back but, as they started to push forward to try and rescue the game, Omarion got behind the defence to score 2 great goals and cement the win for the Greens!
Well Done team for putting in a dominant performance!
EH Red: Jake, Will, Alfie, Phoebe. Elliot, Spencer and GeorgeEH Green: Jack S, Charlie, Leo, Omarion, Harrison, Henley and Jack Sh
Year 3/4 Hockey Tournament @ Shobnall – Friday 16th March 2018
Today, 7 children from year 4 participated in their first ever hockey competition. In fact, it was their first ever experience of any sort of competitive hockey. The tournament consisted of 3 leagues, with a total of 18 teams. Edge Hill were drawn in group C along with: Outwoods A, Picknalls 1, Rangemore B, Shobnall A and William Shrewsbury B. In our first game Edge Hill ran out 2-0 winners against William Shrewsbury B. The team were fantastic in pressing the opposition and made the most of some great chances with Cole scoring a brace. In the second and third games against Picknalls 1 and Outwoods A, Edge Hill did everything but score. They dominated both games and were very unlucky not to win. However, both games ended in 0-0 draws which meant the team were still unbeaten. In the team's 4th game, Edge Hill played Rangemore B and were able to show some fantastic attacking play. A great run down the wing by Regan ended with an even better cross which was finished by Cole to win the game 1-0. The team's last game was against Shobnall A, each player pulled their socks up and played an excellent game which was portrayed in the 3-0 score line (Cole x2 and Charlie x1).
As a result of their hard work, the team advanced to the quarter finals where they faced William Gilbert. In a game where the team dominated again, they just could not score as the games were now shortened from 10 minutes to 5 minutes. The 5 minutes were soon up and the game went to penalties (something none of them had practised before). Both of the teams had to select 5 team members to start at the edge of the area and try and score within 7 seconds. This new challenge proved difficult for both teams as Edge Hill had 6 and missed 6 with William Gilbert having 6 and only scoring 1 in the sudden death.
I am immensely proud of the team as they were excellent in every game and did not have a shot hit against them in 6 games and only missed out on the semi finals on penalties. Each player should be extremley proud of themselves and I hope to see them playing hockey for us again soon!
A huge congratulations to: Marnie, Morgan, Richard, Regan, Zack, Charlie and Cole.
Y5/6 Girls’ Football League – March 13th 2018
The Y5/6 Girl's Football team participated in 2 league games at Burton Albion tonight. With only 3 teams showing up tonight, the girls were even more determined to put in a good performance to ensure they added to their season's points total. In the first game, the girls drew 1-1 with William Shrewsbury in a game they should have won. A great finish by Phoebe and a hard fought performance by Edge Hill was cancelled out by a long range effort late in the game.
In their second game, the girls faced Richard Wakefield for the third time in the league after losing the previous two games. This did not faze the girls, as they scored within the first 10 seconds after some great team work was finished by Phoebe. The game was then end to end with both teams trying hard to score. Ellie and Marnie were solid at the back to ensure Richard Wakefield did not get back in the game.
The girls are growing with confidence and improving each time they play, a massive congratulations to them all!
Edge Hill 1 – 1 William Shrewsbury (Phoebe)
Edge Hill 1- 0 Richard Wakefield (Phoebe 1)
Lacey, Lily, Marnie, Mia W, Mia F, Phoebe and Ellie,
Staffordshire FA U11 Cup 3rd Round v William Shrewsbury – 12th March 2018
On a very wet evening after school, the team looked to progress in this county-wide cup competition!
Edge Hill 1-0 William Shrewsbury (George)
The team looked secure at the back and dealt calmly with a few attacks that never really threatened Lewis’s goal. George put Edge Hill ahead during the first period with a low curling corner that sneaked into the WS goal!
There were no further goals in the second half though the team did make some great chances, especially when breaking from deep inside their own half. Towards the end of the game both teams had chances in front of goal, but nothing went in. Well done team for getting through to the semi-final stage!
Looking at the fixtures for the competition, it looks like Edge Hill will be facing a Stoke school in the semi-final – away.
U11 EFL Kids Cup Regional Finals North @ LUFC Training Ground – 7th March 2018
The Y5/6 football team (representing Burton Albion) travelled to Leeds for the regional finals of this national competition to play off against 11 other school teams representing the other northern clubs in the EFL Championship.
The team was drawn in a group of 6 school teams representing: Burton Albion, Barnsley FC, Hull City, Middlesborough FC, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End. Finishing 1st or 2nd in the group would win the team a place in the semi-finals.
Edge Hill (Burton) 2-0 Brindle Gregson Lane Primary (Preston North End)
An excellent cross from Harrison found Spencer in front of goal for the team’s first. Alfie sealed the win for the team with a cross that went in off one of the defenders!
Edge Hill (Burton) 0-2 Burlington Primary (Hull City)
The team played well and gave as good as they got against the school that eventually finished as the unbeaten winner of the group. Henley was injured during his warm-up before our first match so Jack stood between the sticks for the whole competition. He played really well in goal but could do nothing to stop the winning goals.
Edge Hill (Burton) 2-0 Ingleby Mill Primary (Middlesborough)
Spencer opened the scoring for Edge Hill, then Will popped in the team’s second goal after a powerful free kick from George rebounded at his feet!
Edge Hill (Burton) 0-2 Lacewood Primary (Barnsley)
Despite having at least as many goal scoring chances as the other team, Edge Hill found themselves a goal down. When one of the Barnsley players was accidentally tripped inside the area, the penalty conversion left the team with too much to do.
Edge Hill (Burton) 0-0 (Sheffield Wednesday)
The final match was against another good team. Even so, the two teams were evenly matched and the game finished goalless. A win would have secured Edge Hill a place in the semi-finals, but it was now out of the team’s hands…
After the final group match had been played, the team was unlucky not to qualify for the semi-finals and lost out by a goal difference of just the one goal, leaving them in 3rd place. Apart from the team that won the group, each of the other teams had won, drawn and lost some of their matches. Consequently, it was very close at the end!
However, a huge Well Done to the team for doing so well!
Y5/6 Indoor Canoeing Competition @ Robert Sutton – Tuesday March 6th 2018
Sixteen children from Y5/6 represented Edge Hill in tonight’s canoeing competition. Both teams performed really well and gave it their all! One of the biggest positives from tonight's event was the fact that a large number of children participating had never represented the school before which was fantastic to see. All children found the technique difficult at first but very quickly found their stride and were able to show off some great canoeing! A special mention to Lewis and Jack who rowed 350m and 400m in their team's final race - a huge achievement boys! Finally, congratulations to Edge Hill A who managed to finished 3rd overall.
A Huge Well Done to both teams.
Football League: Edge Hill v Eton Park @ Eton Park – March 5th 2018
The teams travelled across town after school today to play their league fixtures against Eton Park Junior School.
Edge Hill Red 4-0 Eton Park (George, Phoebe x3)
The Reds were well in control during the first half, with goals from George and Phoebe rubber-stamping the team’s dominance. Jake and Isaiah were solid in defence and limited the opposition to just the one chance. After the break, Phoebe made the most of her forward role by putting away two more goals to cap off a great performance by her and the team!
Edge Hill Green 5-2 Eton Park (Harrison, Omarion x2, Elliot, Charlie)
Plenty of busy work from Jack and Harrison created many goal scoring chances for the team, but by half-time the team led by just the one goal which Harrison converted following a brilliant counter attack from deep inside the Green’s half! In the second period, Omarion stepped forward from defence to make the score 2-0, then Elliot slotted home the team’s third. Soon after, Omarion was in the right place to boot home his second goal to make the score line 4-0. After that, the game became an end to end battle with goals coming from both teams! However, the Greens put in an excellent performance to finish the match 5-2 up!
Well done to both teams for maintaining their unbeaten runs after 9 league matches!
Edge Hill Red: Jack, Lewis, Alfie, Spencer, Will, George, Phoebe, Isaiah and Jake!
Edge Hill Green: Jack S, Harrison, Leo, Charlie, Omarion, Elliot and Kian!
Staffordshire FA U11 Cup 2nd Round v Holy Rosary – February 9th 2018
The school football teams have had a very successful year so far, having won Y3/4 football tournaments in Burton and Uttoxeter, and the East Staffs qualifier for the Y5/6 county finals. A 6-aside Y5/6 team from Edge Hill has reached the Northern Finals of the EFL Kids Cup (to be played 7th March in Leeds), representing Burton Albion. Also, our two Y5/6 teams remain undefeated and top the Burton and District Primary Schools Football League. Tonight, a 9-aside Y5/6 school football team was looking to progress in yet another competition when they met Holy Rosary in the 2nd Round of the Staffs FA U11 Cup.
Edge Hill 10-2 Holy Rosary (Spencer x2, Jack D x2, Danny, Harrison x2, George, Isaiah, Phoebe)
Just as he had done in a league match last week, Danny bossed the left wing in the first half and provided the cross for the team’s opener, which Spencer calmly put into the net. Jack pushed forward on the right for the team’s second goal, then Danny nodded home a well-deserved goal to put the team 3-0 up. Jack made the score 4-0 by half-time to cap off a very dominant team performance!
The second half continued in the same vein with George tirelessly cleaning up and carrying the ball forwards into attacking positions. One of his shots on goal was redirected to Harrison who skilfully chipped over the goalie’s head! Shortly after, George was rewarded for all his hard work for the team with a goal of his own. By now, most of the action (and most of the team) was in the opposition’s half, resulting in another goal from Harrison and a goal each from Isaiah and Phoebe. The team’s final goal came from Spencer after he carried the ball with pace down the right, drifted into the centre and put the ball into the net to make the score 10-0! After that, the team lost its shape as they all pushed forward leaving us exposed at the back. As a result, Holy Rosary grabbed a couple of consolation goals at the end of the match - but took their chances well.
Well Done team for getting into the next round!
WINNERS! Y3/4 Indoor Canoeing Competition @ Robert Sutton – Thursday 8th February 2018
Edge Hill entered two teams of 8 into tonight’s competition with very little experience. Many of the 16 children had not yet represented the school in a sporting event (it was great to see the new faces in the school kit).
Dodgeball Tournament @ Robert Sutton – February 1st 2018
Three teams from Y5/6 represented Edge Hill in this competition.
Edge Hill C played 4 group matches and played really well without winning a match. A little more catching would have seen them come out on top in some of the close scoring games they took part in. However, they played well and really enjoyed the competition! Results: Edge Hill C 1-2 Rykneld, Edge Hill C 1-2 Anglesey B, Edge Hill C 0-3 William Shrewsbury A, Edge Hill C 1-2 Victoria A
Edge Hill B also played well but didn’t make it to the semi-final stage. Results: Edge Hill B 2-1 Anglesey A, Edge Hill B 1-2 Windsor Park B, Edge Hill B 0-3 Richard Wakefield
Edge Hill A was probably our strongest team and proved this by winning all 3 group matches! Results: Edge Hill A 3-0 William Shrewsbury, Edge Hill A 2-1 Windsor Park A, Edge Hill A 3-0 Victoria B. A deserved place in the semi-finals saw the team face Windsor Park B. After a very close match the result went in favour of Windsor Park, who won by 2 games to 1. However, in the play off for 3rd place, the team beat Richard Wakefield. The team had worked really hard, played with passion and skill and fully deserved their medals!
A huge Well Done to everyone who played in the Edge Hill teams tonight!
Y5/6 Swimming Gala @ Abbots Bromley School – Tuesday 30th January 2018
Two teams from Y5/6 attended this event to showcase their swimming skills against other schools from East Staffordshire.
The teams competed in different races for breast stroke, back stroke front crawl and a woggle race. Races came thick and fast for individual girls and boys, and mixed relays took place for each of the different swimming strokes. The swimmers from Edge Hill achieved their best results in the individual races, with several finishes high in the placings. As usual, the competition was of a high standard with some excellent swimmers taking part, but the team gave it their all.
A huge congratulations to our brilliant swimming teams of:
Skye, Faith, Fearne, Mia W, Isaiah, Connor, Izzy, Mia F, Evelyn, Owen, Dylan, Harrison, Jack, Alfie and Katie!
Football League: Edge Hill v Outwoods @ Robert Sutton – January 29th 2018
Our two unbeaten football league teams played unbeaten Outwoods at Robert Sutton today.
Edge Hill Green 1-0 Outwoods (Omarion)
This was a fairly evenly matched game in the first half, but Edge Hill Green went ahead after the restart. Some good work from Harrison provided Omarion with the ball, who slotted it away with style!
Edge Hill Red 2-0 Outwoods (Will, Alfie)
Will opened the scoring after taking his chance well when free on the left. In the second half, Danny ran things down the right wing and put in a low cross which Alfie poked in from just a foot away from the goal line! In defence, Jake and Isaiah were a secure barrier for Lewis in goal, and George was tireless and skilful in the centre of the pitch.
Well done to both teams for maintaining their unbeaten run after 8 league matches!
Edge Hill Red: Jack, Lewis, Alfie, Danny, Will, George, Phoebe, Isaiah and Jake!
Edge Hill Green: Jack S, Harrison, Leo, Brooklyn, Charlie, Omarion, Jack Sh and Kian!
Staffordshire FA U11 Cup 1st Round @ Richard Wakefield – January 24th 2018
The school Y5/6 team entered this new county wide competition for Staffordshire schools and travelled to Tutbury for its 1st round match. The team played well and made numerous chances in the first half, but all the shots on goal missed the net. A few changes in position and personnel at half-time seemed to give the team new ideas and purpose in the second half, with goals coming from Phoebe, Alfie and Spencer. Three of these goals were supplied by Elliot, who played really well. A couple of mistakes at the back cost the team a few goals late in the game, but despite the late resurgence by Richard Wakefield the game was won.Well done team for getting through the 1st round!
Football League: Edge Hill v Horninglow and Scientia Academy - January 22nd 2018
Our school football teams played their first football fixtures of the term at Robert Sutton after school today.
Edge Hill Green 1-0 Scientia (Harrison)
Edge Hill Red 2-0 Horninglow
Edge Hill Green 1-0 Horninglow (Harrison)
Edge Hill Red 6-0 Scientia
Edge Hill Red 0-0 Edge Hill Green
The Reds and the Greens played an excellent game which ended in a goalless draw. However, it was an action-packed game in which Henley saved the day on more than one occasion!
Y5/6 Girls’ Football League – January 9th 2018
In the school's first sporting event of the year, our Y5/6 Girl's Football team participated in 3 league games at Burton Albion. As usual, the team put in 110% and were a credit to the school. They triumphed in their first game 6-0 which is a fantastic result considering the short length of the games. The second game was much closer with the opposition equalising with not long to go until the end. However, the girls dug in and managed to score a winner with a great piece of football which was finished off by Phoebe with her left foot! In our last game, the girls faced arguably the strongest team in the league and were unfortunate to concede the goals they did. Overall, the girls played incredibly well and are improving more and more each time we play.
Edge Hill 6 – 0 Kingfisher (Phoebe 5, Ellie 1)
Edge Hill 2 - 1 St Modwen's (Phoebe 2)
Edge Hill 1 – 3 Richard Wakefield (Phoebe 1)
A huge well done to:
Lacey, Lily, Marnie, Mia W, Mia F, Phoebe and Ellie,
WINNERS! U11 EFL Kids Cup Local Final – Burton Albion Community Football Centre – December 9th 2017
With both finalists coming from Edge Hill, it just remained to be seen who would go on to represent Burton Albion in this national competition!
Edge Hill II (Alfie, Spencer x2, George x2) 5-1 Edge Hill III (Charlie F)The first half saw action in front of goal at both ends, but it was EHII who took their chances, finishing the first half two goals up. However, EHIII always looked like they had a goal or two in them, and only some last ditch defending managed to keep them from scoring! In the second half EHII piled on the pressure resulting in a solo goal from Spencer after a break on the right. Two goals from George looked to wrap up matters, but EHIII fought back and won a penalty after Max T was brought down in the area. Lewis made a great save but Charlie F was first to the loose ball and put it in the back of the net! Well done to the Y6 school football team for winning the final! Also, a huge Well Done to the Y4 team for getting to the final and putting in an impressive performance against the older boys. The Y4s are an excellent team and we anticipate great things from them in a few year’s time!
U11 EFL Kids Cup – Burton Albion Community Football Centre – December 6th 2017
Three teams from Edge Hill took part in tonight’s 6-aside football competition. All of them successfully navigated their way through the group stages to reach the quarter-finals, and two of the teams went on to win both semi-finals, meaning they will meet each other in Saturday’s final before the Burton Albion home match against Preston North End!
Edge Hill I began by winning their first two group matches against Horninglow and Doveridge. Danny got the goals with some accurate long shots, and plenty of busy work from Harrison and Jack S made sure the opposing players didn’t get much time to settle on the ball. In their third match, they lost against a good Richard Wakefield team then drew their final match against Long Lane (Ashbourne). However, they did enough to progress to the quarter-finals!
They met a good team from St Modwen’s in the quarter-final. A determined defence from Will and Danny and fine goalkeeping display from Lewis kept the score level at 0-0. Unfortunately, they were knocked out of the competition after the ensuing penalty shoot-out. But well done team for getting so far!
Edge Hill II also played four group matches, winning three of them to gain a place in the quarter-finals!
Edge Hill II 1-0 William Shrewsbury I (George)
Edge Hill II 4-0 Winshill Village I (Alfie, George x2, Isaiah)
Edge Hill II 2-0 Tower View I (Alfie/Spencer, George)
Edge Hill II 0-1 St Modwen’s I. St Modwen’s long shot strategy served them well and caused the team a few problems. However, the game was close and the team was unlucky to lose the match!
Quarter-final: Edge Hill 3-2 Richard Wakefield (Alfie pen, Spencer, Alfie). This was a competitive match which was ultimately decided by a goal from Alfie right from the restart!
Semi-final: Edge Hill II 2-1 St Modwen’s I (Spencer, George). After going behind to an early goal, the team steadily got on top of the game, scoring two goals to win the match and gaining quick revenge for their defeat in the group stage!
Edge Hill III was our Y4 team, who earned their place in the competition after two impressive tournament wins last month. After an unlucky loss in their opening group match, the team went on to win the next three matches, winning a place in the quarter-finals!
Edge Hill III 0-1 St Thomas’s
Edge Hill III 2-0 Holy Rosary II (Charlie P, Cole)
Edge Hill III 4-0 Tower View II (Zack x2, Max T, Charlie F)
Edge Hill III 1-0 St Modwen’s II (Cole)
Quarter-final: Edge Hill III 1-0 Thomas Russell (Zack). The team really showed its class by winning this match against one of the strongest Dove Valley teams!
Semi-final: Edge Hill III 1-0 River View (Zack)
A huge Well Done to all the Edge Hill players! Securing both places in Saturday’s final is an impressive achievement. Everyone at Edge Hill is very proud of each and every one of you!
Trampolining @ Robert Sutton – Tuesday 5th December 2017
21 excited young trampolinists from Edge Hill visited Robert Sutton for a trampolining sessions run by Y10 Sports Leadership students.
Supervised and coached by the Y10 students, the children took turns to practise using the trampolines safely. Also, the more advanced children were shown how to introduce gymnastic shapes whilst in the air.
Many thanks to the Y10 students for organising the sessions. Everyone at Edge Hill wishes them well in their leadership training!
Y3/4 Swimming Gala @ Abbots Bromley School – Tuesday 5th December 2017
Two teams from Y3/4 attended this event to showcase their swimming skills against other schools from East Staffordshire.
A special well done to Richard, Sam, Liam and Katie who all managed to come 1st in a race during different events!
A huge congratulations to our brilliant swimming teams of:
Richard, Liam, Harry, Coby, Ellie, Izzy, Jesscia, Eva, Sam, Fletcher, Geoffry, Jack, Mia, Ava, Katie and Amy.
Football League: Edge Hill v Anglesey @ Anglesey Primary Academy – November 30th 2017
On a bitterly cold evening, the school football teams played their league fixtures against Anglesey. Both Edge Hill teams were missing regular players due to other commitments or illness, but all the players stepped up to the challenge!
Anglesey 0-1 Edge Hill Red (Phoebe)
It took a while for the Reds to find their shape and form themselves into an effective attacking unit. However, the defensive partnership of Isaiah and Jake kept things very safe at the back and, as a result, the team started to get forwards into goal scoring positions much more, especially in the second half. The team’s goal came from a super cross from Jack, which Phoebe just managed to steer in at the far post. They got better and better as the game progressed and looked very solid. Well done team!
Anglesey 0-2 Edge Hill Green (Elliot, Harrison) It was Elliot who opened the scoring with a brilliant shot from outside of the goal area. Omarion made many dangerous runs forward, and Charlie showed his pace by making runs down the left wing. As usual, Harrison was busy all over the pitch and got the team’s second goal. Though not playing in his usual position, Leo kept a clean sheet with some valuable stops at his near post. Overall, another great performance from the Greens to get the win!
EH Reds: Isaiah, Jake, Will, Lewis, Jack, Alfie and PhoebeEH Greens: Jack, Charlie, Elliot, Leo, Omarion, Harrison and Jack S
County Football Finals @ St George’s Park – November 22nd 2017
The school team played against the best school football teams from Stoke and Staffordshire at St George’s today. As you would expect, the competition was strong, but the players put in excellent performances to show they fully deserved their place in the competition!
Edge Hill played in a group of 5 teams with only the group winner going through to the final.
Match 1: Edge Hill 0-0 Gorsemoor (Cannock & Rugeley) The team made a good start but probably played a little too safely. Our front players were a bit isolated from the rest of the team and didn’t get the ball in enough scoring positions. However, the draw settled the team into the competition.
Match 2: Edge Hill 4-0 Bursley (Newcastle) (Spencer x2, Alfie, George) In this match, a much more cohesive effort saw the team win in style!
Match 3: Edge Hill 0-1 Codsall (South Staffs) The team from Codsall had won both its matches prior to this one. They were a skilful team and very quick to get in front of goal when they were in possession. However, their goal came from a shot from outside of the area. Henley played brilliantly all morning, but there was nothing he could do to keep the goal out.
Match 4: Edge Hill 1-0 Greenways (North Stoke) (Spencer) This was an action-packed game which at one point looked to be going badly for the team. A penalty shot against Edge Hill was brilliantly saved by Henley, only for it to be retaken after Jake was adjudged to have encroached into the goal area! But once again, Henley kept the shot out! Spencer snatched the win for the team with a great header to the right of the goalkeeper!
Unfortunately, 2 wins and a draw was not enough to win the group, and the team that Edge Hill had narrowly lost to went on to win the competition. Even so, the players should hold their heads high as they were clearly one of the best teams there! A huge Well Done to:Spencer, Phoebe, Jack, George, Henley, Alfie, Will, Harrison, Jake and Isaiah!
WINNERS! Y3/4 Football Tournament @ Robert Sutton High School – November 21st 2017
We have some excellent footballers in Y3 and Y4, and our two teams recently finished as both winner and runner-up in a Uttoxeter tournament. This evening, they took part in their second competition of the term. Altogether, 15 school teams from the Burton area took part.
Edge Hill I played four matches in their group, winning all of them without conceding a single goal!
Edge Hill I 4-0 St Modwens (Cole x3, Charlie P)
Edge Hill I 3-0 William Shrewsbury I (Cole x2, Zack)
Edge Hill I 3-0 Shobnall (Cole x2, Zack) Zack’s goal came from an excellent corner which he curled into the far corner of the net!
Edge Hill I 1-0 Scientia Academy (Zack)
Semi-Final: Edge Hill I 3-0 Richard Wakefield (Zack, Cole, Max)
Final: Edge Hill I 2-1 Rykneld (Cole, Zack) After going behind to an early goal, the team dug in and got an equaliser before normal time ended. Zack wrapped things up with a goal during extra-time! Huge congratulations to the team for winning another competition!
Edge Hill II also played four matches in their group, winning 2 and losing 2. However, one of the team’s defeats was a very close affair, and putting away just one of their scoring chances would probably have won them a semi-final place! In one of the team’s matches, they scored the best goal of the night when Tyrun went on a long dribbling run from deep inside the team’s half! Well played Edge Hill II!
Edge Hill I: Charlie P, Cole, Jack, Zack, Charlie F, Max, Sam and Regan!Edge Hill II: Harry, Sonny, Tyrun, Joe, Ty, Ollie and Ole!
Tuesday 21st November 2017 @ St George’s Park
Today, some of the girls in Y4 were lucky enough to be invited to St George’s Park to watch the England Women’s team train. The girls had the opportunity to not only watch a training session but to meet the players after the session too. Each girl enjoyed talking to the players as well as receiving autographs from most of them.
RUNNERS-UP! Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics @ Robert Sutton – November 13th 2017
Edge Hill went one better than last year by finishing in second place in tonight’s Y5/6 Sportshall Athletics competition!
The 9 boys and 9 girls who took part did really well in the track and field events and competed with real drive and determination. The boys’ team and the girls’ team notched up many successes during the evening and ran, jumped, threw and bounced with speed and skill. As always, the competition standard was high across all the schools that took part, so finishing second was an excellent achievement! A huge Well Done to all the Edge Hill athletes!
Boys: Jack D, George, Alfie, Spencer, Kian, Harrison, Jake, Jack S and BrooklynGirls: Olivia, Katie, Phoebe, Skye, Alivia, Millie, Mia, Isobella and Fearn
WINNERS! Boccia Competition @ Robert Sutton – November 9th 2017
For this competition, we targeted some of the children who had yet to participate in interschool competitions. There were plenty of volunteers – especially from Y5 – so we entered 3 teams: a Y4 team, a Y5 team and a team from Y5/6.
Though very much new to the sport of boccia, the teams from Y4 (Edge Hill 1) and Y5 (Edge Hill 2) played really well with plenty of developing skill at sending the ball with the correct ‘weight’. Both teams lost a few matches and won a few matches but didn’t amass enough points to get through to the semi-final stage. Even so, they thought hard about where to place their boccia balls and really enjoyed themselves! Without a doubt, with a little more practise they would have definitely progressed further in the competition!
The Edge Hill 3 players from Y5 and Y6 did manage to win enough games and secured a place in the semi-finals. They won their semi-final match by winning two straight games, then repeated the feat in the final against William Shrewsbury. Two excellent long balls close to the jack from Kobe and Holly proved to be unbeatable and made a big difference to the outcomes of the semi-final and final. Many congratulations to the winners (who were absolutely delighted to win the competition) and a huge Well Done to all the Edge Hill boccia players who took part tonight!
Edge Hill 1: Finley, Rosina, Sam and Jak
Edge Hill 2: Cerys, Mackenzie, Charlie and Lorraine
Edge Hill 3: Kobe, Conner and Holly
WINNERS! Y3/4 Football Tournament @ Thomas Alleyne’s High School – November 8thth 2017
Two teams of keen footballers took part in this Uttoxeter tournament after school today, and did brilliantly to finish in first and second place!
Edge Hill A played three matches in their group, winning all of them!
Edge Hill A 2-0 Richard Wakefield A (Max T x2)
Edge Hill A 6-0 Picknalls (Cole, Max T, Zack x2, Charlie P x2))
Edge Hill A 5-0 St Modwen’s B (Max T, Charlie P, Cole x2, Max B)
Semi-Final: Edge Hill A 4-1 St Modwen’s A (Charlie P x3, Max T) The team knocked out the tournament holders with a dominant attacking performance, particularly by Charlie who netted a hat-trick!
Edge Hill B played two matches, winning both to win their group and a semi-final place!
Edge Hill B 10-0 Abbotsholme (Tyrun, Joe, Ole, Ty)
Edge Hill B 4-0 Richard Wakefield B
Semi-Final: Edge Hill B 1-0 Richard Wakefield A (Joe) This match was heading for extra-time but Joe settled matters with an excellent winner with just 1 second of normal time left!
Final: Edge Hill A 2-0 Edge Hill B (Max T, Cole) A neat touch at the near post by Max T put the A team ahead. The B team fought back well but Cole put the result out of reach with a second goal for the A team!
Both teams had put in excellent performances and were full of confidence. The number of players on the score sheets for both teams is testament to the fire power they had at their disposal. Well done to both teams for doing so well. You should all be very proud of tonight’s performances!
Edge Hill A: Charlie P, Sam, Cole, Zack, Max T, Max B, Jack and Regan
Edge Hill B: Tyrun, Joe, Ty, Sonny, Harry, Ole and Ollie
Y5/6 Girls’ Football League – November 7th 2017
On a very wet Tuesday evening, the girls competed in their second set of league fixtures.
Edge Hill 1 – 2 Richard Wakefield (Phoebe)
Edge Hill 1 - 3 Oldfields (Phoebe)
Edge Hill 5 – 0 Horninglow Primary (Phoebe x5)
The girls’ first game was played against a team that had previously beaten them without much battle from our girls. However, in this game the girls were extremely unlucky to lose as it was a much closer game than the previous fixture. After equalising to make it 1-1, Lacey made a number of excellent saves to keep the score level until unfortunately, a late goal was conceded.
In the second game, the girls were up against arguably the strongest team in the league. Nevertheless, the girls went into the game with confidence and started very well, pressing the opposition when they had the ball. A few long distance goals put Oldfields 2-0 up before Phoebe pulled one back. The girls were very unfortunate to concede the 3rd as they had stopped play due to someone being hit in the face from the other team before conceding a 3rd– this was an excellent example of ‘sportsmanship’.
In their final game, the girls ran rampage and all of their hard work resulted in a comfortable score line. Their confidence levels continued to grow throughout the game and each of them believed they could get on the score sheet. The game finished 5-0 with all goals being scored by Phoebe. There was an excellent show of resilience by the girls as they did not let their previous results influence their performance.
A huge well done to:
Lacey, Jorja, Lily, Fearne, Marnie, Mia W, Mia F, Skye and Phoebe. J
Football League: Edge Hill v River View @ Edge Hill – October 31st 2017
The school football teams played their second league fixtures against River View today.
Edge Hill Green 1-1 River View (Jack S)
Despite missing their first choice goalkeeper, Edge Hill Green managed with Leo between the sticks for this match. However, the industry of Jack S and Harrison kept much of the action at the other end of the pitch, and it was due to their skill and hard work that the team took the lead! As the night started to close in near the end of the match, River View grabbed an equaliser. The whistle blew soon after with the match at 1-1. The team had played really well against a well organised side that contained some good footballers. Well done Greens for giving them a tough game!
Edge Hill Red 4-0 River View (Spencer x4)The game started fairly evenly with a few half chances at both ends. River View had some talented players so it was crucial that we did not give them the opportunity to shoot. It was Spencer who broke the deadlock during the first half, and the team started to push forward more from then on. A well worked second goal from Spencer gave us the breathing space to settle into our game, and this led to a fine one touch passing move between George, Phoebe and Spencer for the team’s third goal. The Reds were solid at the back, with Jack deserving a special mention for his outstanding work at intercepting the ball as soon as it came near our back line. By the end of the match, Spencer had increased the team’s lead to 4-0! Well done everyone for a very good all-round team performance!
Girls’ Football Tournament @ Marston’s Sports Ground – October 17th 2017
The girls went one better than last year by reaching the semi-finals of this competition!
Edge Hill A won all their group matches and did not concede a single goal!
Edge Hill A 6-0 Eton Park (Phoebe x4, Lily, Ellie)
Edge Hill A 5-0 River View (Phoebe x4, Paris)
Edge Hill A 3-0 Richard Crosse (Phoebe x3)
Semi-Final: Edge Hill A 0-1 Oldfields A The game ended 0-0 after several chances in front of the Oldfields’ goal nearly gave Edge Hill the lead and a probable victory. However, right at the end of extra time our defence was pierced by an attack that resulted in us conceding a goal. It had been a close game though, and the team was very unlucky not to get through!
Edge Hill B played in a different group in some competitive matches against Oldfields B, William Shrewsbury A and Shobnall. They had chances to win some of these matches, but unfortunately left themselves very thin at the back. Despite not winning the group, the team competed strongly in every game!
A Huge Well Done to:
Edge Hill A: Phoebe, Ellie, Mia W, Lily, Paris, Marnie and Lacey!Edge Hill B: Katie, Olivia, Demi, Mia F, Fearne, Skye, Jorja and Millie!
WINNERS! East Staffs Open Football Tournament @ Marston’s Sports Club – October 12th 2017
A huge Well Done to both our teams for doing so well in this football tournament and qualifier for the county finals!
Edge Hill A – the Y6 team – won their group by coming out on top in all 4 of their matches:
Edge Hill A 3-0 Holy Trinity (Spencer x2, George)
Edge Hill A 2-0 Oldfields A (Spencer x2)
Edge Hill A 2-0 Christ Church (Spencer, George)
Edge Hill A 2-0 Yoxall St Peter’s (Spencer, George)
Semi-Final; Edge Hill A 2-0 Outwoods (Spencer x2) The team met Outwoods in the semi-final and survived a few scares at the back to win the match and a place in the final!
Final: Edge Hill A 2-0 William Shrewsbury A (George, Spencer) The final began pretty evenly, but two classy volleys from George and Spencer won the game for Edge Hill! Hooray!
Credit for the victory must go to the whole team, who kept their shape well and were solid at the back, conceding not a single goal throughout the tournament!
Edge Hill B were all from Y5 apart from Lewis who stood in goal. They played really well in their group to win a place in the semis as best runner-up!
Edge Hill B 0-1 William Shrewsbury
Edge Hill B 1-0 Oldfields B (Omarion)
Edge Hill B 1-0 St Modwen’s B (Harrison)
Edge Hill B 0-0 Richard Wakefield
Semi-Final: Edge Hill B 0-0 William Shrewsbury A (WS A won on pens after extra time)
They played William Shrewsbury A in the semi-final, holding them to a goalless draw after extra time had been played. Lewis played a blinder in goal in the penalty shoot-out, which went to 12 penalty shots per team. We were looking at an all Edge Hill final at one point, but it wasn’t to be. However, the Y5s played brilliantly to get so far!
Edge Hill A: Spencer, Phoebe, Jack, George, Henley, Alfie, Will, Jake and Isaiah!
Edge Hill B: Harrison, Jack S, Lewis, Charlie, Jack Sh, Leo, Omarion and Kian!
Football League: Edge Hill v Holy Rosary @ Edge Hill – October 5th 2017
After school today, the Edge Hill teams played their first league fixtures of the season against Holy Rosary’s two teams.
Edge Hill Green 3-1 Holy Rosary II (Harrison, Jack S, o.g)
Edge Hill made a slow but controlled start to their first game against Holy Rosary. Some superb link up play between the defence and midfield led to the team’s first chance, which Harrison took and got the team up and running. The first goal was quickly followed by a second with Jack S making it 2-0. Holy Rosary soon came back with a goal of their own, but the determined Edge Hill defended and started to show their team spirit, hitting the post and shooting wide. Later, Holy Rosary defended a corner, only for one of their players to head the ball in for an own goal, giving Edge Hill Green their first victory!
Edge Hill Red 7-0 Holy Rosary I (Jake, Spencer x3, George, Alfie, Will)
After an opening spell in which the team threatened to score several times, it was Jake who put the team ahead when he latched on to a goalpost rebound and nudged the ball across the line with his stomach! Spencer got the top of his head on to a long throw, guiding it across the line for the team’s second goal. After three or four shots over the top of the goal, George managed to find the net with a powerful shot to make the score 3-0 to the Reds. It was pretty much one-way traffic from then on with two more goals from Spencer, a headed goal from Alfie and a goal from Will!
Edge Hill Green 7-0 Holy Rosary I (Harrison x5, Jack S x2)
The second game started how the first finished, with all the Edge Hill team expressing themselves, passing, tackling and shooting! In no time at all, Edge Hill got their first of 7 - 5 for Harrison and 2 for Jack S! All the goals came from great defensive and midfield work to release Harrison and Jack. Special mention goes to Harrison for a fantastic free kick! Aside from the goals, Isaiah defended superbly and commanded the defence with Leo and Jack Sh running down the wings. Kian played two different positions adapting well and defending. Henley made some fantastic saves and his distribution gave the Greens an advantage throughout. Excellent performances for both teams’ first run out. Well done all!
Edge Hill Red 2-1 Holy Rosary II (George, Spencer)
Despite dominating the game, the Reds went a goal behind from a free kick. However, in the second half George drew the team level with a powerful shot, then Spencer snatched the winner for the team!
Edge Hill Red: Spencer, Jack, Lewis, Alfie, Danny, Will, George and Jake!
Edge Hill Green: Jack S, Harrison, Leo, Henley, Isaiah, Jack Sh and Kian!
Y5/6 Girls' Football League – October 3rd 2017
After school today, our Y5/6 girls’ football team played their first league fixtures of the year. This was their first time playing together competitively after very few training sessions. The girls participated in 4 games against some very strong teams, with each game lasting 8 minutes.
Edge Hill 0 – 4 Richard Wakefield
Edge Hill 0 – 2 St Modwen's
Edge Hill 0 – 0 William Shrewsbury
Edge Hill 1 – 0 Horninglow Primary (Mia W)
After losing the first two games, our girls began to find their feet and learn from their previous mistakes and grind out results from some fantastic performances. The girls played with smiles on their faces throughout and gave 110% for the duration of the night. A massive congratulations to each of them.
Lily S, Fearne H, Mia W, Mia F, Katie S, Ellie F, Jorja O and Lacey W.
Team Sports Day – September 26th 2017
Our annual team sports day took place today, where each year group took turns to carousel around activities that included: archery, golf, netball shooting, bowling, rebound catching and penalty kicking. Points were awarded for scoring goals, making catches, hitting wickets and binning balls, and extra points were awarded for teamwork and cooperation. At the end of the day, Red House came out on top with a superb total of 2001 points. Blue House gave them a close run for their money with an impressive total of 1957 points!
